How our sawdust briquettes are made
From local sawmills to your boiler: the five steps every Utheri briquette goes through in Maai Mahiu.

Every Utheri briquette follows the same path through our yard in Maai Mahiu.
- Sourcing. We buy sawdust from sawmills around Maai Mahiu, residue that would otherwise be burned or dumped.
- Drying. The sawdust is spread and turned in solar drying tunnels until its moisture comes down.
- Testing. Every batch is checked with a moisture meter before it goes to the press.
- Pressing. Dried sawdust is compacted into dense, non-carbonized briquettes that store, move and burn consistently.
- Delivery. Finished briquettes are weighed, loaded and delivered to manufacturers, schools, hotels and institutions.
Buying sawdust also creates income for the sawmills that supply us, so the loop begins again. See the full process on our How It Works page.
